Deltasone (Prednisone) must be used exactly how it was prescribed.
However, it can also be taken with meals to reduce GI upset.
Do not abruptly stop treatment even if feeling better.
Take the medication on a full course.
Missed Dose:
It is advisable not to miss any of the doses, but if there are missed doses, take it as soon as remembered. However, if it is close to the next dose, skip it and continue with the cycle. It is important never to double the dose.
Storage:
This medication must be stored at a room temperature and it must be far from moisture. If overdose is suspected, contact health care provider immediately. Some symptoms of drug overdose is obesity, increased blood pressure, round face, and swollen feet and hands because of fluid retention.
Use this medication with caution. This medication can cause dizziness and light headedness in some people. Alcohol consumption must be avoided when taking this medication.
Warnings and Precautions:
Deltasone is not advised to be used if there is an allergic reaction the drug and its drug components.
There are some conditions in which Deltasone must not be given and it is if you are breast-feeding, already pregnant, or is planning to get pregnant. Also, if you are taking any medicine, both prescribed or non-prescribed, dietary supplement or any herbal preparation.
If there are known allergies to this medication, food or other substances, deltasone must not be given. Certain diseases such as hypothyroidism, liver or kidney problems, ulcerative colitis, diabetes, esophagitis, heart problems, gastritis, ulcer, or stomach perforation or obstruction, is a contraindication to the medication.
There are also drug interactions with Deltasone (Prednisone). Inform the health care provider if taking any medications such as Barbiturates (e.g., Phenobarbital), hydantoins (e.g., phenytoins), carbamazepine, or rifampin, because this may decrease the effectiveness of the medication.
Hydantoins, mifepristone, or other vaccines for the liver may cause decrease in effectiveness of the medication. Other anticoagulants such as warfarin or aspirin may cause changes in side effects either increase or decrease.
Deltasone side effects:
Usually, medications causes side effects, but these are only minor and sometimes cannot be seen. If any of the common side effects become bothersome or persists, inform your health care provider immediately.
If any of these side effects occur, seek emergency medical help:
- Severe allergic reactions such as hives, rash, difficulty breathing, chest tightness, mouth, tongue, face or lip swelling
- Loss of appetite
- Menstrual changes
- Convulsions
- Mental changes, depression
- Muscle weakness
- Super infection
- Unusual weight loss
- Body discomfort or weakness
- Euphoria
