Diflucan (Fluconazole) can be in capsule or liquid form.
Shake the liquid preparation to mix it evenly.
For capsules, take it as prescribed by your healthcare provider.
Missed Dose:
Try not to miss any dose, but in case you do, take is as soon as possible. However, if the missed dose is close to the next dose, skip it and go on with the regular dose. Do not double dose.
Storage:
Store the medication at room temperature and keep it away from direct exposure to moisture or heat. Also, keep away from children.
Overdose:
Seek medical attention if you suspect an overdose.
Warnings and Precautions:
Liver function must be monitored prior to starting treatment therapy. If a rash develops during treatment, consult health care provider immediately. This medication may cause dizziness, so do not engage in any activities requiring alertness mentally. Do not drink alcohol.
Do not use Diflucan if:
- Allergic to Diflucan
- Taking an aldosterone blocker, ergot alkaloid, serotonin receptor antagonist, erythromycin, or pimozide.
Contact your health care provider if:
- You are breast-feeding, pregnant or planning pregnancy
- Taking any kind of medication
- You are immunocompromised
- You have a liver or kidney disorder
- You are allergic to other azole antifungals.
There are some medications that interact with Diflucan, inform your health care provider if you are taking any other medications.
Aldosterone blockers, serotonin receptor antagonists, astemizole, and amiodarone when combined with Diflucan lead to severe arrhythmia.
Rifabutin increases risk of some eye problems. Macrolide immunosuppressants increases the risk of kidney problems. Proton pump inhibitors or rifampin decreases effectivity of Diflucan.
Anticoagulants, benzodiazipines, haloperidol, HMG-CCoA reductase inhibitors or "statins", cyclophosphamide, ergot alkaloid, cyclosporins, narcotics, theophyllines, sulfonylureas or any tricyclic antidepressants increases the side effects.
