Use Glucophage (Metformin) as directed by your physician.
It is best taken with a meal and drink plenty of fluids while on this medication.
Take it on a regular basis; at same time each day.
Missed Dose:
Take the missed dose as soon as remembered. Skip the missed dose if close to the next one, then proceed to the regular schedule. Do not double dose.
Storage:
It must be stored at 68-77F (20-25C). Keep away from children and store away from light, heat, and moisture.
More Information:
This medication may cause dizziness. Do not engage in activities that require mental alertness. Do not drink alcohol while on this medication. Do not take more or less than prescribed.
Warnings/Precautions:
- Inform health care provider regarding present medical conditions such as heart or respiratory problems, thyroid, adrenal, pituitary, stomach or bowel problems.
- Do not take if allergic to this medication.
- Inform health care provider if anemia, low blood calcium, vomiting, poor health, diarrhea, infection, recent injury, burns, fever, drinks alcohol or is an alcoholic.
- Inform health care provider if pregnant or breast-feeding because Glucophage can cross breast milk. Do not breast milk while taking Glucophage.
- Do not take this medicine if there is ketoacidosis, kidney or liver problems, you had a stroke, or have low blood oxygen levels, had recent heart attack, above 80 years old, or have not had a kidney function test.
- Follow diet and exercise regimen.
- Inform health care provider prior to getting any dental work-up or surgery.
- Wear medic alert bracelet.
- Check blood sugar levels regularly.
- Do not use in children younger than 10 years old.
- Elderly patients are more sensitive to the effects of the medication.
Possible Glucophage side effects:
- Diarrhea
- Headache
- Indigestion
- Nausea and vomiting
- Upset stomach
- Metallic taste
Contact health care provider and seek emergency medical care:
- Severe allergic reactions
- Chest pain
- Light headedness
- Difficulty breathing
- Flu-like symptoms
- Persistent or fever sore throat
- Fatigue
- Unusual drowsiness
- Unusual fatigue or weakness
- Persistent stomach cramping or pain
