Take Synthroid (Levothyroxine) exactly as prescribed by your physician.
Do not consume in larger or lesser amounts than recommended and follow the label.
Dosage may be readjusted accordingly. Take Synthroid with a full glass (8ounces) of water.
Tablet form disintegrates very quickly and swells in the throat that can possibly cause choking; use with caution.
Take Synthroid 30minutes prior meals on an empty stomach at the same time each day usually every morning. Several weeks may pass before the medication can take effect.
Continue taking the medication even if feeling well. Remember that in most cases this medication is required to be taken in lifetime.
Osteoporosis may also be a side effect. Laboratory tests are done routinely, so make sure to keep your appointments.
Missed Dose:
Take when remembered, but if it is near the next dose, skip it then proceed to regular dosing schedule. Do not double dose.
Overdose:
Seek emergency help for symptoms of overdose that includes: pounding heartbeat, chest pain, shortness of breath, tremors, confusion, leg cramps, diarrhea, vomiting, or seizures.

- Do not change brands without consulting physician as the effects of the medication can vary.
- Avoid infant soy formula, walnuts, high-fiber foods, and cotton seed meal because they can hinder in absorption of Synthroid.
- Do not take this medication if you had heart attack, thyrotoxicosis, or adrenal gland problem that is uncontrolled.
- Inform physician if you have coronary artery disease, heart disease anemia, diabetes, history or blood clots, or problems with adrenal or pituitary glands.
- If you have diabetes, inform physician as doses of oral diabetic medication needs to be changed.
- There are certain drug interactions with Synthroid, inform physician about non-prescription and prescription medication, herbal or dietary supplements, or vitamins being taken.
- Synthroid is pregnancy category A and it means that it is safe to be utilized by pregnant and breastfeeding women.
Common side effect of Synthroid is mild hairloss. Contact your physician if it becomes bothersome or persistent.
Seek emergency medical help if you experience:
- severe allergic reaction
- insomnia
- headache
- nervousness or uneasiness, hot flashes
- sweating or fever
- changes in menstrual periods or appetite
- changes in weight
